If you wish to reside in the TRNC for more than 90 days, you must apply for a temporary residence permit. There are different types of residence permits, such as those granted because the applicant owns immovable property in the TRNC, or due to family residence, student residence and so on. There are a number of categories under which a foreigner can be eligible to apply for a residence permit. A residence permit only entitles a foreigner to live in the TRNC. It does not entitle one to work or set up a business. To do these, one must obtain either a work permit or a business permit.

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus law states that residence permits can be applied for once you have bought your North Cyprus Home. The British Residence Society can provide you with all relevant information. When you arrive in North Cyprus, you are issued with a 1 month tourist visa. After that you must apply for a residence permit. The procedure is fairly straight forward but does require medical checks for HIV, Typhus etc at the hospital in Lefkosa. The current cost is approximately £150 for your first application and then a small renewal fee in subsequent years.

Legal requirements and Procedure for applying for a residence permit are as follows

You must make yourself known to your local Immigration Office by taking your passport. Local Immigration Offices are found at the Police station.Permits are issued by the Department of Immigration in Lefkosa, The office can be found in a building at the back of the bus station on the 3rd floor. By law the foreign resident has to obtain and completed a minimum of three consecutive temporary residence permits before submitting an application, which may then take a further two years before being granted.

The applicant has to have a place to live. Property ownership is required.
The applicant has to have a documented regular income.
The applicant has to be retired.

Steps to follow when applying for student residency in trnc

In order for our students to complete the student resident procedures, you must be active students by registering for your courses.
Students should check their personal details (Passport number, birth place, mother/father names via your school system or SIS and update the details if it is needed).
You should complete the registration process by clicking ‘register now’ and filling in the information on the pop-up page on the TRNC student permits system at https://permissions.gov.ct.tr/login
Your user code and password will be sent to your e-mails and phones according to the information entered on the immigration page. In accordance with this information, you will be able to enter the immigration page.
On the student permissions application page, you will first see the question about whether you have a health report. A foreign student will upload the results of the original laboratory examination (report and/or lab), which is not exceeding the registration date for 2 months and having the results of HCV-HIV-hepatitis-RPR with a lung scope or a lung graph for tuberculosis, obtained from a general, special or university hospitals affiliated to the Ministry of Health of Turkish Republic. It is required that you go to a regional public hospital for approval after the installation process is completed and submit your reports. The Health reports unit of the State Hospital in the area where you are educated will evaluate the uploaded health report and ensure that the process continues. The result of the laboratory examination will be approved over the single physician report fee specified in the regulation on fees tariff of health institutions in force of the TRNC Ministry of Health. However, in cases where the Ministry will require additional inspection, health institutions will pay full fees according to the fee tariff set out in the fees tariff regulation. Students, who do not have a health report, will process the student permits through the automation system in order to receive a health report.
The reports uploaded to the system will have proceeded to the next phase after the approval of the Ministry of Health.
After receiving your approvals, you will be able to transfer to the tax office and specify how many years you will have your immigration, and after paying the tax fee in the system, you will be able to transfer to the immigration office and end your student permission process. Then you will wait for the immigration department to prepare your documents.
The information about the student permission documents that are available will be sent to the phone number and/or e-mail address that you specified during registration. However, since the Department of Immigration sends you the message when printing the document, you should wait a few days considering the length of time until the document reaches to the University. You will be able to receive the document from the Registrar’s Office.
